Ice Dam Steaming
Adam Niden Painting is proud to offer professional ice dam
steaming removal services for our local community.
The sheer speed with which a major winter storm can descend upon our
area makes homes and businesses throughout our area especially
vulnerable to ice dam formation and the resulting property damage
they cause - and the millions of dollars spent annually on ice dam
related repair work.
Early detection and rapid response are the keys to saving your
property and your wallet from the ravages of ice dams. Even the
smallest icicles hanging from your gutters should serve as a red
flag that a destructive ice dam is forming!
Ice Dams - The What, Where and Why...
Recognizing the warning signs early will save you thousands later!
WHAT is an ice dam?
An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of a roof,
preventing melting snow from draining as it should. Water that backs
up behind the ice dam can leak into the home and cause damage to
walls, floors, ceilings, insulation, and other areas.
WHERE do ice dams form?
Most ice dams occur at the lowest edge of your roof where roof
runoff collects the most, though they are also known to form along
the valleys of dormers, below and above skylights, roof pipes and
vents, and sometimes even around chimneys and furnace flues -
basically anywhere heat loss occurs through the roof enough to cause
snow to melt.
WHY do ice dams form?
Roof ice and ice dams result from the escape of heat into the
attic or roof space. This buildup of heat melts snow on the roof,
which then runs downward to the cold edge of the roof,
refreezing to form an ice dam. The more snow melt that runs down the
roof, the larger and more hazardous the ice dam becomes!
